In his new publication, Prof. Carl Beierkuhnlein cautions that in the event of climate catastrophes, one should not only react after damage has occured and with conventional methods. Instead, the AquaKlif researcher calls for a proactive implementation of nature-based approaches to solutions, e.g. by promoting various aspects of biodiversity. This sustainable and feasible approach to crisis prevention can reduce the damaging effects of extreme weather events. Implementation requires long-term and spatial concepts, but will pay off in the future.
The scientific basis for the required solutions has already been developed and must now be translated into action.
Publication: Nature-based solutions must be realized – not just proclaimed – in face of climatic extremes
