Prof. Dr. Susanne Jochner-Oette and PhD student Johanna Jetschni of the Catholic University Eichstätt present, how the BAYSICS app can be used to report allergenic plant species and how this can help persons suffering from pollen allergies. Allergenic plants, such as currently the hazel, are starting to blossom even earlier because of climate change. With rising temperatures, pollen grains are produced in larger quantities and often contain more allergens, thus making them more aggressive. If as many participants as possible report where allergenic plants reside, a risk map could be developed to help people suffering from hay fever.
