Climate change has a massive impact on fresh and marine water ecosystems. The “World Climate Statement” summarizes several study results on this matter. In Germany, change in lakes and rivers are clearly showing. The Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR) has recently published an audio report (BR24 Wissen, 2th of October 2020), featuring group leader Prof. Jürgen Geist from bayklif senior research associations AquaKlif. Lakes and rivers have to be made more resistant to climate change. Prof. Geist proposes specific measures to increase water quantitities and flow velocity as well as to decrease water temperatures.
